As the year 2017 begins today, Athletic Heat would like to start with our Top 20 most handsome Nigerian athletes.

We want to thank everyone who has been with us from May 1st till this time and also for the unexpected amount of views we received on the Women’s Top 20 list and some were already anticipating for the men’s list.

Not every sports is as unrelenting and physically demanding as athletics but on average, athletes have to have a fairly high level of natural talent as well as commitment to be prepared for competitions.

Grueling gym routines, intense physical rehabilitation after an injury and specially planned diets are simply a greater part of an average athlete’s life than these things are for everyone else.

It isn’t just female athletes who have to make themselves presentable, but the male athletes, too. Let us look at Athletic Heat’s Top 20 Most Handsome Nigerian Athletes.

20) Paul Dedewo

Dedewo who was born on the 5th of June 1991 is a US born sprinter who made his debut appearance on the Nigerian scene at the 2016 All Nigeria Championships where he had the fastest time in the 400m semifinal but got disqualified in the final due to a false start. He has a Personal Best of 20.58s and 45.41s in the 200m and 400m respectively.

19) Raymond Ekevwo

Raymond is an 18 year old Nigerian sprinter who had his breakthrough in 2016 after winning the 100m title at The National Junior Championships with a MIND BLOWING time of 10.35s, he never rested on his prowess as he went on to win The West African Junior 100m title in Banjul, Gambia. Raymond was selected to represent Nigeria at The World Junior Championships, he however didn’t run in the 100m because he arrived Poland late but he was able to compete in the 4x100m. Who knows, Raymond could be the ‘Usain Bolt’ of his generation, if he keeps forging ahead!

18) Omeiza Akerele

Omeiza is a Nigerain sprinter who specializes in the 200m and 400m. He was a member of the Nigerian team to the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow and African Championships, Morocco. He is a 4x400m bronze medalit at The 2015 African Junior Championships. Omeiza holds a lifetime best of 10.58s, 21.35s and 46.56s in the 100m, 200m and 400m respectively. He is presenting studying Sports Management at Oral Robert University. Oklahoma, USA

17) Fasasi Kunle

Fasasi is a freshman student at the University of Florida, USA where he competes in the sprints for the Gladiators. He was a double bronze medalist at the 2015 African Junior Championships, Ethiopia in the 400m and 4x400m. He is a two-time 2016 USTFCCCA Outdoor All-American (400m, 4x400m), USTFCCCA Indoor All-American (4x400m) and 2016 Nigerian 400m Champion. Fasasi has a Personal Best of 45.43s and 20.98s.

16) Jeremiah Jakpa

Jerry as he is fondly called is an 18 year old up and coming sprint star who started athletics in 2014 and he is one athlete to watch out for in near future following his eye catching performance at The 2016 National Top Sprinter competition in Lagos where he stormed to victory in the Junior Category of the sprint double. He has a Personal Best of 10.82s and 21.82s. Jerry is managed by Making Of Champions and sponsored by Oil and Gas company, ARCO Group.

15) Victor Peka

Victor is a printer who specializes in the 100m and 200m wherein he has a Personal Best of 10.62s and 21.34s respectively. Victor is a 2015 African Junior Gold and Silver medalist in the 4x100m and 200m respectively. He was recently granted an athletic-scholarship to study Physical Education at Oral Roberts University, Oklahoma, USA

14) Aworolo Emmanuel

Aworolo is a sprint star who competes in the 100m and 200m wherein he has a Personal Best of 10.48s and 21.02s respectively. Aworolo made his debut in the Green and White colours at The World Junior Championships in Poland where he competed in the 200m and 4x100m. He is one of the Junior athletes who can spring up surprises when the 2017 athletics season commence. Watch out for him!

13) Chidi Okezie

Chidi is a 23 year old US born sprinter of Nigerian-Jamaican descent but presently competing for Nigeria. He majors in the 200m and 400m with a Personal Record of 21.02s and 45.83s. He was the 2015 National champion, 2016 World Indoor finalist and 2016 African Championships bronze medalist in the 400m while competing for The USA he won a Gold medal in the 4x400m. He is a graduate of Hampton University.

12) Abiola Soyemi

Abiola is a 19 year old sprinter who competes in the 100m and 200m and has a Personal Best of 10.40s and 21.37s respectively. He was very active during the 2016 National Golden Leagues. He made his debut appearance on the Nigerian team at The 2016 World Junior Championships, Poland competing in the 4x100m.

11) Peter Moreno

Moreno is a UK based Nigerian decathlete who has competed for the nation a few times with The All Africa Games been the most recent. He was a year older two days ago and we at ‘Athletic Heat’ wish him a great 2017 season.

10) Seye Ogunlewe

Seye is a gangly Nigerian sprinter who specializes in the 100m. He was a finalist in the 100m and 4x100m at The 2015 All African Games in Congo. He is a two-time National Champion in the 100m and made his Olympics debut at The2016 Rio Games where he bowed out in the heat. He has a Personal Best of 10.12s and a Law and Politics graduate of University of Essex. Seye is managed by Temple Management Company and sponsored by Union Bank of Nigeria.

9) Ikoko Onengi

Ikoko is a 19 year old sprinter who hail from Baylesa state competes in the 100m and 200m wherein he has a Personal Best of 11.00s and 23.12s.. In 2014, he became the fastest school boy in Nigeria by virtue of winning the 100m title at The National School Sports Festival in Otukpo, Benue state and since then he hasn’t relented on his effort. He hopes to make his debut appearance on the Nigeria team at The African Junior Championships this year.

8) Olamigoke Olumide

Olumide who was born on September 19, 1990 is a Nigerian Tripler Jumper who has represented the nation a few times. He was born in the United States and hence holds a Nigerian-American dual citizenship. He was at The 2014 Commonwealth Games, African Championships in Morocco, 2015 All Africa Games, 2016 World Indoor Championships and The Rio Olympics. He is the 2016 Nigerian Champion in the Triple Jump.

7) Ini-Oluwa Oye

Ini-Oluwa is a 100m and 200m specialist who represented Nigeria in the 2014 World Junior Championships in the 100m dash. He has a PB of 10.53s and 21.85s. Ini is currently studying at University of Kentucky, USA.

6) Usheoritse Ese

Usheoritse is an alumni of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti where he competed for his school track team in the 100m and 200m, winning the 200m and the 4x100m at the National Private University Games hosted by his school. He has donned the Nigerian colors a few times. He was at the African Youth Championships, Commonwealth Youth Games where he won medals in the process. He has a personal best of  10.80s and 21.84s

5) Toluwani Adebakin

Toluwani is a 19 year old athlete, model and blogger. He specializes in the 200m and 400m. He has a lifetime best of 7.18s, 10.90s, 22.05s and 49.77s in the 60m,100m, 200m and 400m respectively. He is a freshman student at Anderson University, Indiana, USA.

4) Tega Odele

Tega is a 200m specialist who has competed for Nigeria at various competitions including World Junior Championships, World University Games, African Junior Championships, All African Games, World Championships and very recently, he made his Olympic debut at The 2016 Rio Games. He has a Personal Best of 10.36s and 20.45s.

3) Obohkare Ikpefan

Obohkare Ikpefan. Obos as he is fondly called is a 21 year old Nigerian 400m hurdler who has a Personal Best of 50.07s. He represented Nigeria at The 2014 World Junior Championships in Oregon, USA where he bowed out in the semifinal. Obos finished second at The 2016 All Nigeria Championships then a day later won The CAA Warri Relays with a time of 50.08s. He is a Senior at Purdue University, USA majoring in Biology.

2) Jon Okoye

Jon is a 21 year old Senior at University of Georgia competing for their track team, ‘Georgia Dogs’ in the 100m and 200m. He is from a sporting family as his mum, Beatrice Utondu-Okoye was part of Nigeria’s 4x100m relay team that won a bronze medal at The 1992 Olympics while his father, John Okoye was a Nigerian 400m athlete that competed in the highest level for Nigeria. He has a Personal Best of 10.45s and 20.91s. He made his debut appearance on the Nigerian scene at The All Nigeria Champions winning the bronze medal in July, 2016.

1) Alex Al-Ameen

Topping our men’s list for Athletic Heat Top 20 Most Handsome Nigerian athletes is Alex. He is a British born Nigerian 110m hurdler who made his debut appearance on The Nigerian scene at The 2014 All Nigeria Championships finishing second in his discipline. He wore the Nigerian colors for the first time at The Commonwealth Games in Scotland where he was a finalist in the 110m hurdles, he went on to win a Silver medal at The African Championships. He has a Personal Record of 13.54s.
