X-Men star Famke Janssen, who impressively portrayed the role of Jean Grey, reportedly thinks she’s done playing the character for good. After bringing the prominent character to life in five installments of the franchise, the Dutch actress believes her tenure as the mutant may be over.
Over the weekend, Famke Janssen made a guest appearance at the Denver Comic Con where she opened up about her thoughts on being able to play a huge role in the X-Men franchise. The 52-year-old actress only had beautiful things to say about her experiences on the set as well as the entire cast and crew that she has worked with for over a decade.
Famke Janssen revealed that the success of their first X-Men movie was something unexpected, adding that none of them even imagined it to live on for over 15 years. The actress also noted how the franchise kept on getting her back despite the fact that Jean Grey or the Phoenix was already killed.
“I knew Jean Grey could turn into Dark Phoenix, obviously, and that Phoenix rises from the ashes, but the fact that as Jean Grey or the Phoenix they’ve killed me, I’ve come back, I’m like a cockroach. They can’t get rid of me.”
In the same event, the brunette beauty also expressed her gratitude to her loyal fans who never failed to show their support ever since she portrayed the iconic role. Famke Janssen also took the time to thank her co-stars whom she described as “talented thespians,” adding that their time in the franchise is done.
“It’s the gift that keeps on, kept on giving. I think we’re done, but it was really great while it lasted and it lasted for a long time.”
Despite her farewell remarks, Famke Janssen admitted that she is still more than willing to reprise her role in the future. Many believe that it’s highly possible for the actress to return as Jean Grey, especially since her role is vital in the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
“Jean Grey is a part of me. I would definitely come back to play her whenever they ask me.”
Some even pointed out that Famke Janssen’s co-stars Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart also gave their final performances for the X-Men franchise in Logan earlier this year.
Famke Janssen starred in X-Men (2000), X2 (2003), and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). She returned for minor roles in The Wolverine (2013) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014).
Meanwhile, Famke Janssen already passed the torch of being Jean Grey to Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner. The 21-year-old English actress took over the role in X-Men: Apocalypse, the third film in the X-Men franchise’s prequel series.
Sophie Turner’s version of Jean Grey will take center stage in the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix, slated for release in November 2018.
