30 countries and 50,000 tourist are expected to participate in the 2016 Calabar Carnival
The theme of the 2016 Calabar Carnival is “Climate Change” which was also the theme of the 2015 event. The theme is repeated, because environmental issues are still very important.
The first lady of Cross River State, Linda Ayade during the commencement of the dry-run said: “We are dedicating the 2016 Calabar carnival to climate change. As we participate in the second dry run today, I wish all of us a peaceful street dance along the carnival routes.”
According to Gabriel Onah, chairman of Calabar Carnival Commission said 30 countries are expected to participate in this years carnival.
50,000 tourist are also expected in the former capital of Nigeria. This was said while Mr George Ekpungu, Commissioner for New cities Development, Cross Rivers State was paying an advocacy visit to the traditional rulers and elders of Nsutan community, Calabar South Local Government.
“Governor Ben Ayade is determined to develop the state with a view to attract more investors for business and leisure. I appeal to you to support the development of this city. When fully developed, over 50,000 tourists that will be in Calabar for the carnival and will be taken on a boat ride to visit the city. This will generate revenue for the state and the host community will also get royalties”.
