See the winners of the 2017 MOBO Award

The MOBO Awards 2017 took over Leeds First Direct Arena last night. The rapper came away with three awards – Best Male, Best Grime Act and Best Album for ‘Gang Signs & Prayer’.

During his acceptance speech, Big Mike said that he was most proud of the award “because I put my life into my album.”

“You watch the Mobos growing up so this is an honour. I’m so proud. This is dreams come true,” he said following his win, before hitting the stage to perform with Krept & Konan.

Stefflon Don picked up the accolade for Best Female, making her the only female winner on the night.

Other performances on the night included sets from ‘Bodak Yellow starlet Cardi B, Yungen and Britain’s Got Talent winner Tokio Myers.

Comedians Michael Dapaah, a.k.a. Big Shaq, and Elijah Quashie, who recently landed his own TV show as the Chicken Connoisseur, also presented awards during the ceremony.

Nigeria’s Wizkid pulled up a big feat, defeating the likes of Jay Z, Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar and so on to win the Best International Act. An act which has been commended by many including Former President, Goodluck Jonathan who took to his Facebook page to congratulate him…

He wrote;

When Nigeria does well, I cannot help but feel well. My happiness is tied to the happiness of Nigeria and when Nigerians break records and take the name of Nigeria to greater heights it exhilarates me. Thank you Wizkid for raising Nigeria’s flag high for the positive, not the negative. Your emergence as the Best International Act at the #MOBOAwards is a proud moment for Nigeria. And the fact that you emerged over JAY-Zand Drake makes it even more celebratory. WELL DONE. GEJ.
